Wearable Art: Tribute collection - recycled Aluminum necklace woven with ribbon
Continuing our tribute collection in special homage to the renowned Anni Albers, we present another captivating piece inspired by her woven washers and ribbon necklace. This unique design was custom-made for a wine share event at New Life Spa Alternative Health & Wellness in Grove, Oklahoma, where our dear friend Terri proudly showcased it. We're excited to share the results with you!
Terri, my long-time friend and muse, has always exuded a fierce and confident spirit since our days at age 12. With her striking purple hair, asymmetric shave, and composed demeanor, she demanded a bold design that matches her vibrant personality.
Before delving into the inspiration and design of this piece, we want to reiterate that Quix Art & Design takes pride in crafting every wearable art and jewelry mindfully. Each creation is thoughtfully made from recycled materials reclaimed from decaying rural properties, empowering you to embrace your individuality while supporting small businesses and rural revitalization. With your purchase from our Etsy store, you champion sustainable fashion and make a difference.
Notes on Design
The genesis of this necklace was an enchanting journey. As always, the design process began with mindful meditation, allowing ideas to flow past the constraints and breathe life into the piece. For this design, our goal was clear – an opening in the metal elements that could be beautifully woven together with ribbon, all while expressing the essence of our muse, Terri.
Experimenting with aluminum wire, the shapes you see emerged naturally. And as if the metal itself guided the process, I recognized the influence of Art Deco motifs. It was a perfect match, for Terri adores 20th-century art and is especially enamored of Art Deco
Curiously, my search for the exact inspiration led me to the intriguing realm of Mesoamerican culture and the plumed serpent gods associated with the square spiral often used in Art Deco. It's fascinating how sometimes the metal tells its own story, and I'm delighted to be the conduit that brings it to life.
Credits
I believe in giving credit where it's due. A heartfelt thanks to Terri, my oldest and dearest friend, for being my muse in creating this piece. Also, I owe gratitude to Julie of sweet-sparrow.com, whose inspiration for another Anni Albers tribute nudged my artist's eye in the right direction.
